One of the best ways to build your assets and increase your small business savings might be to start an Individual Development Account through a program now being offered through the Hartford IDA Collaborative. According to program information, IDAs are matched savings accounts: participants savings are matched so that they can invest n assets of long-term value, such as first homes, small businesses, or higher educations. In exchange, account holders commit to participate in extensive financial education and one-on-one counseling programs. In other words, for every dollar that you save in this account, you get another dollar (or two) put in your account through the program.
As a graduate of BI$, you may have already completed the asset training required for a small business IDA. For more information, and to determine if youre eligible, contact Tim Cole at Co-Opportunity (a member of the Hartford IDA Collaborative) at: 20-28 Sargent St., Hartford CT 06105, (860) 236-3617, ext. 112, or http://www.fyi@co-opportunity.org
